River Communications

Early live-streaming production, encoding & broadcast consultancy

River Communications was spun out of Seminar Source in 2001 to complete the streaming and event contracts Seminar Source had signed before winding down operations — including events for the American Bar Association, CAMFT, and AIHA. It grew into one of the early live-streaming production and encoding companies and a pioneer in bringing professional video to the web.

Over time it evolved into a consulting practice spanning video, streaming, and broadcast — working with clients like Allscripts and the American Bar Association, and on broadcast development with Sony Electronics.

What I did:

• Live streaming production, encoding, and event delivery

• Studio design and engineering — TV, radio, recording, and editing

• Live audio production and recording (Front-of-House & Back-of-House)

• Consulting in streaming, compression, video, and audio

• Multi-codec streaming protocols and CDN workflows

This period also included two hands-on roles that built the technical and commercial foundation for my career:

Broadcast & Satellite Engineer — XETV / TV Magic (2003): Satellite-truck and broadcast engineering — camera shading, equipment repair, tower engineering, master control, and syndication. Earned my FCC license, SBE, and iNARTE certifications, and began my MA in Management & Organizational Leadership. (See the XETV page.)

Director of Sales & Engineering — Computer Modules / CompuModules (2004–2006): Led sales and engineering for the imaging, industrial-vision, AV, and production-equipment division — owning vendor relationships (Ikegami, JVC, Sony Broadcast), systems integration, and channel development. Grew the division from $150K to $3M in annual sales by building turnkey encoding/streaming products and a repeatable sales channel. (See the CompuModules page.)
