IBM Watson Media, AI
and Unified Communications
May 2014 to Dec 2025 USTREAM / IBM
I spent eleven years at Ustream and IBM. I started by running technical sales at a streaming startup and stayed through the IBM acquisition. I built the partner business at IBM Watson Media. I finished as Head of Unified Communications in IBM's CIO Office, running collaboration and AI tools for 300,000 people.
Head of Unified Communications, CIO Office (2022 to 2025)
After a reorganization of IBM Watson Media, I moved into IBM's CIO Office to own global UC and AI platform strategy, architecture and operations for 300,000 employees across voice, video, collaboration, conferencing and AI enablement, on a $100M technology and labor budget. I ran a global team based in New York, Durham, India and Slovakia.
Retired BlueJeans, then led IBM's move off Webex onto Microsoft Teams in 7 months against a 12-month plan when the CIO directed the change.
Rolled out Microsoft Copilot across the workforce as an end customer, taking it from pilot into production. Slack AI was in pilot when I left. My team made sure Teams, IBM Streaming and Slack worked with Box AI.
Drove the ITIL and Agile change in the CIO office, and brought a 99.999% uptime policy from Watson Media, with backup plans that had backup plans so meetings kept running when a platform went down.
Led global cross functional technical teams and managed complex vendor and partner relationships across Microsoft, Slack, Webex and Box.
Director, Strategic Partnerships & Technical Sales, IBM Watson Media (2019 to 2022)
Promoted to rebuild and scale IBM's global enterprise video partner function while continuing to run technical sales. I owned partner strategy, monetization, solution architecture and enterprise revenue growth across commercial and regulated markets.
Grew partner revenue from $10M to $50M in three years. Partners went from about 25% of the business unit's revenue to 60%. The unit's revenue roughly doubled as partners and self service took over from the direct sales team.
Co-developed AI and media solutions with Samsung, AT&T and Sony.
Secured a five year enterprise AI and video contract with the U.S. Navy, and delivered AI and video solutions across defense, federal and judicial agencies including NASA, the U.S. Army, DHS, CDC, FBI, DOJ and multiple U.S. Courts of Appeals and state courts, which ran remote proceedings on the platform during COVID.
Led FedRAMP scoping and federal security audit support for DHS, NASA and the Army, working directly with the third party assessors.
IBM 100% Club and President's Club, 2016 to 2019, then Golden Circle (its new name), 2019 to 2022.
Head of Sales Engineering, Ustream / IBM Watson Media (2014 to 2019)
After DVEO, Ustream's CEO recruited me to run the technical sales organization as the company prepared for acquisition, reporting to him directly and advising on market direction. I also stepped in as interim director of sales during that period.
Grew the global sales engineering team from 2 to 15 across four regions: the US, APAC, Europe and Africa.
Ran special projects reporting into the CRO and wrote the statement of work templates the business unit adopted. Five VPs across the business unit used me as their read on the field and where the market was going.
Owned technical training and enablement for IBMers on Cloud Video, including Fast Starts, Sales Kickoffs and Cloud Technical University.
Led special projects with Samsung, Sony and AT&T FirstNet, and embedded AI including Watson speech to text, intelligent video analytics and video enrichment into streaming deployments.
